DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO DR Congo has been experiencing internal war but I was very far from where the conflict is happening. God kept me safe as we travelled to three areas outside the city of Lubumbashi where I stayed. I am thankful for His protection since there are very bad road accidents all the time. “When are you coming back?” The first year Bible college students are eager to study God’s Word and for many it is difficult to pay the fees. I taught them for two weeks and spoke at the school chapel service. Canadian missionaries Pierre and Marielle Paradis who oversee the college were wonderful hosts. I thank God for the favour and acceptance He has given me there. The day after I arrived I was being asked, “When are you coming back?” Pastors repented The District Superintendent, Rev Ilunga organized services in three new areas. At Katoto, some pastors openly confessed that they had not been giving tithes to the Lord and He convicted them. They repented. I had only mentioned tithing during the teaching but that was not really my topic! God healed some of the people during one of the services. One young boy, the host pastor’s son, gave his life to Jesus. Three hours late for service Going to Travelka, we were lost and the road was full of boulders. We arrived at the service almost three hours late but the people were still at the church and we had a blessed time. I had to sleep on a mattress on the floor, but that is all part of missionary life!! It was a glorious service the next day. People were praising God in spite of their hardships. KENYA God opened the doors into two new areas where I had the honour of being the first person from Canada and the Caribbean to minister there. At Kitengela we had lunch-hour services in a building that has no windows or doors. The people praised God anyway! The Holy Spirit led me to speak on the topic of prayer and it was needed. The pastor’s wife testified that her prayer life was revived! Many were touched by the Holy Spirit at the revival meetings and Sunday morning. The Holy Spirit broke chains setting people free from bondages. “How can we forgive?”
Getting to Cheptais involved travelling all night on a bus and most of the road was very bad. Then there was another three hours of travel in the morning, but it was worth it. The people of that district went through two years of terrible unrest with brutal murders. Their stories are heart-wrenching and God ministered to many people as we dealt with the topic of forgiveness. The man who invited me there lost a brother in the conflict. “How can we forgive someone who was responsible for the murder of my family member?” they asked. We had sessions for pastors and leaders as well as the general congregation. It was a beautiful time together with about six churches represented. It is a fertile area but for one year the people could not attend to their farms so food is scarce. Contributions from Canada made it possible to buy food for the seminars and they were very grateful.
I received an email from the host pastor from Cheptais. He wrote, “On behalf of the Church, I would like to register our utmost appreciation for your coming. The timely messages you delivered have positively changed the entire church. Give the same appreciation to those who stood with you while you were here in Kenya and in particular Cheptais in Mt Elgon District. It’s our prayer that God spares another time for you to visit us again.” Ministry in Nairobi Two of my friends helped to put on the first full Keepers of The Home seminar in Nairobi. There were 27 ladies, with seven churches represented. We had a beautiful day at a small hotel and the women testified of how the Lord ministered to them. I also preached at three churches in the Embakasi area. God blessed us with His presence. Women's Seminar - Keepers of the Home. Approximately 1300 individuals attended the classes, church services and seminars. I thank God for His faithfulness in providing all that was needed for this trip. It was a very busy time but He gave the strength that was needed. Testimony Gifts from Canada are a great blessing to many. Most of the clothing and toiletries went to a camp for internally-displaced persons. At the home where I stayed I gave two T-shirts to the young son. The mother explained that he had asked her to take him to the market to buy a T-shirt but she did not have the money. He was delighted to get the T-shirts from Canada and saw that God met his need. New Church Library opened One friend in Canada gave me a number of books which were donated from a church library in London Ontario. Most of the books were given to King Worship Center in Quarry slum. On previous trips, I had taken other books, encouraging them to begin a library. Since I returned home the pastor sent an email saying, “We have started the Library services every Sunday and people are excited to borrow books. Thanks for your support and encouragement may God bless you.” |
