Focus On The World

Ghana and Benin Print E-mail

GHANA, WEST AFRICA, June 2008

It was very  intense twelve consecutive days of teaching....
Last year, Rev Sharon Titian of Canada started Mt.  Zion Bible College  in  the  village of Adidome.  There were  seven  students  from Ghana  and  one  from Nigeria.  They were  eager  to  learn  and  full  of  zeal  for  the  Lord.  It was  hectic, teaching and marking test papers daily. I also helped the administrator with computer work. My ministry there included speaking at two Sunday services. One was at a church that the students pioneered in another village.

Sharon and staff care for 18 orphans. Some of them have faced great difficulties. One little girl was sold by her mother! The Holy Spirit touched their lives afresh as we worshiped the Lord together.

BENIN, WEST AFRICA

People were asking, “Where is that?” Benin is very small country, a former French colony with Nigeria on its eastern border.  It was  fascinating  to be  there.  I have never  seen  so many motorbikes  in one place. The people are beautiful and hard-working. The practice of witchcraft is very strong so it is a great battle in the spirit realm. However, people are giving their lives to Jesus. It was a profitable week. Pastor Ernest and his wife Daslin were my hosts. Daslin  is a Canadian, originally from Jamaica. We had a wonderful women’s conference during three evenings [some men attended too]. It was the  first one that they have held. On the second evening  I dismissed the service but the people did not leave – they continued to linger in the presence of the Lord and we finally left at 10 pm. The next day the service finished at 11 pm. The people are hungry  for God’s presence. He poured out His Spirit  in our
midst. People were set free from oppression and chains were broken in the name of Jesus. At the Sunday service, the teaching on the subject of prayer was well-received.

We had  two days of  seminars  for pastors. They were happy  to come  together and we had a great  time. They face many difficulties, especially financially and they needed the encouragement.

Humanitarian Aid

One little girl who is unable to speak received a new pair of beautiful pink shoes from another little girl in Canada. Pastor Ernest was delighted when he got a leather garment bag donated by a former businessman. It was just what he needed for his travels. There were gifts for everyone, including their chauffeur.  Daslin wrote, “When I looked at all the gifts you brought us at your own expense, I know that the Lord has sent His angel  to minister  to us. And  thanks  for  the  fruits  that are  remaining.”
I  know  that  I  am  simply His servant going in His name to help others and I really represent all those who give and pray.

I praise God for a great trip. I lost some valuable notes on one of the airplanes but the Lord had already worked it out because I found the notes I needed for teaching in another folder. He goes ahead of us and works out the victory on our behalf.
